I got a call from a NGO requesting me to donate INR 80,000 for a child’s heart surgery. The caller said that the child had a hole in the heart and as the child’s father is very poor, he cannot afford the surgery so we are helping him out. The child is from Bihar and we at Delhi are helping him out.
My heart melted on hearing the story told by the lady on the other side. I went down the memory lane when my own sister was born with a hole in the heart. The medical science was not all that advanced in early 1960/70’s and she and my parents went through tough times for years together. Now the things have changed, medical science has improved tremendously. I became so desperate to help the child that I eagerly told her that there are 2 hospitals which conduct children’s heart surgery free of cost.
In heart of my hearts, I was self-praising myself for providing a solution, I was visualizing that the child has recovered, I was being selfish that I will now hear a “Thank you’ from the lady.
But Alas! The lady’s sweet voice turned so harsh and she said to me “if you want to give, give money and not free ka gyan” and she banged the phone down.
Without further commenting on the NGO and their modus operandi, I sincerely urge all readers to be aware that there are actually 2 hospitals which provide free heart surgeries for children.
And FREE MEANS FREE!

Please note that my only purpose of writing this blog is to spread awareness. If you find genuine cases then direct them to either of these hospitals.
Let us spread so much awareness of these hospitals that no child suffers. No NGO should have the audacity to call up and ask for money on pretext of a child’s heart surgery. No parent should suffer. After all “A child’s heart is precious”
